January – Genesis and Job

This is for the end of January:

If you have time, here are some trivia questions to have fun with.

Discussion Questions: (Print)

1. Kim talked about the greatest evil. Why is rejecting God more evil than human suffering? Is that hard for you to accept? If this is true, how does it change the way you view the stories in the Bible?

2. In the past have you ever seen God as the bully of the Old Testament? What makes it difficult for you to see these stories from God’s perspective?

3. Jacob called “the god of my fathers” until he wrestled with God. then God became “the God of Jacob”. When did God become your God, instead of “the God of____?”

4. Kim talked about God’s lifelong pursuit of Jacob. As you look back over your life, do you see God’s pursuit of you? What people, events, or moments did God use to pursue you?

5. Does anyone want to share what you wrote  during the video in the one minute journal time?

6. Which character caught your attention the most in Genesis? What did you notice about them?

7. What story was the most difficult for you/bothered you the most?

8. Did you notice that God points to creation to explain who He is A LOT in Job? Why do you think He starts there?

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies announce what his hands have made. Day after day they tell the story; night after night they tell it again.” Psalm 19:1-2

9. Does human suffering make you angry at God? How have you resolved that conflict in the past? Have you avoided thinking or talking about it? Do you speak directly to God about it? Why or why not?
